I find this fascinating! Over 21 years, more states have become "shall issue" states than not ... and still, California stands strong in it's state of "may issue". Granted, there is fear that if the anti-gun state that borders the Pacific became a "shall issue" state, it could then regulate the "shall" so much that it would be less existent than the "may" currently is ... either way, the trend depicted by this interactive diagram are interesting nonetheless!
(sidenote: it was created in 2006, so it would be interesting to see if it has changed over the past 6 years, to what extent, and in which way)

Learning Confrontation
If the last few elections haven't been enough to prove that conservatives need a few lessons on how to win, I don't know what will. Part of our effort to help the conservative movement across the state {and the country for that matter} is to teach people what we know to be true: conservatives need to learn the art of confrontation. Years ago, our founder, Senator H.L. Richardson, ret., wrote a book called "Confrontational Politics" for that primary reason. To bring awareness to conservatives about where they are lacking, teach them how the liberals work, and provide tactics to help promote good, artful confrontation.
GOC's Executive Director, Sam Paredes, has not only studied the book thoroughly, but he has created a series of trainings and seminars on the book, for groups interested in learning how to become more effective in the political arena. He has been traveling all over the state speaking to Tea Parties and conservative groups for years. Once he gives an hour long presentation on the book, which simply scratches the surface, the groups, more often than not, schedule a 6 hour long seminar for a more thorough training.
Hundreds, if not thousands of people across the state have heard Sam's Confrontational Politics presentations, and many more have read the book behind the seminar. Needless to say, the word is spreading. This morning, I came across an article from a reporter in Nevada who read the book and raved about it's truth. He even goes as far as to commission conservatives to get confrontational!
Don't you think it's time?
If you are interested in scheduling a presentation for your group, call Gwen at 916-984-1400. We need to spread the word, and we need to get confrontational!

I just finished reading an excellent book for conservatives titled “Confrontational Politics” by former California State Sen. H.L. Richardson, which is extremely relevant to the sad state of the conservative movement here in Nevada. Here’s an example:
“Remember, an average Democrat with conservative ideas doesn’t get elected to high office. He wouldn’t get the time of day from the left-wingers who control the party apparatus.”

It's for the children!!!
Yet another story of how a gun saved a life!
How many times have you heard people say "it's for the children", in regards to yet another liberal agenda, like banning guns? Well, here's another story you can use to explain why preserving the Second Amendment is "for the children!"
TAMPA, Fla. — A convenience store manager grabbed a gun from under the counter and shot a robber in the knee when the man scooped up the clerk's infant daughter, deputies and family members said Wednesday.
The robber tried to get into the cash register Tuesday afternoon at Del's 24-Hour Food Store in Naples but he couldn't open it. He grabbed a stroller with Elizabeth Easterly's 1-year-old in it and headed for the door, according to a sheriff's report and family members. Easterly shot the man and he died at a hospital.

He Left His Mark ...
If you haven't had an opportunity to read any of Senator Richardson's books, you should. He made it a point to educate his constituents of what life was like at the Capitol. Richardson gave an honest account of what the Legislature is like; which might have been the cause of a few strained relationships. That didn't stop him. For instance, he wrote a book called "What Makes You Think We Read the Bills?" Just the title alone rats out his esteemed colleagues. They take the time to run a campaign, speak on our behalf, and vote for what they think is better for us. But, Senator Richardson blows their cover. He let's us in on a secret that they don't want us to know about ... they don't even read the bills that they vote on {and pass}! Thus, what are the chances that they even understand what the bill will do once passed?
The article below shows even the Governor trying to protect their cover ...
Dan Walters: Fiona Ma's words echo book on California Capitol
Published: Monday, Oct. 3, 2011 - 12:00 am | Page 3A
Bill Richardson was a very conservative Republican state senator from Southern California who single-handedly changed the political dynamics of his house – although whether for better or worse is still debated.
For decades, Senate leaders adhered to an unwritten understanding that they would never challenge incumbent senators of the other party.
Richardson – a former advertising man, ardent hunter, anti-crime advocate and pioneer user of campaign technology – rebelled at the nonaggression pact and sponsored challengers who unseated three liberal Democratic senators in 1976, 1978 and 1980.
The ousters so unnerved Democratic senators that they abandoned bipartisanship, threw out their longtime leader, James Mills, and elected a new leader, David Roberti, who promised to fiercely defend Democratic seats.
While he was doing all of that, Richardson, known to friends and foes alike as "Wild Bill," wrote a humorous little book called "What Makes You Think We Read the Bills?" that remains one of the most insightful accounts of Capitol dynamics. One of its points was that legislators rarely read, and often don't understand, the measures on which they pass judgment.
Richardson's book about how bills pass and fail comes to mind because of something that occurred recently in the Capitol room where many news conferences are staged.
Just before this year's session ended, Gov. Jerry Brown proposed an overhaul of corporate taxation that he said would encourage California-based businesses to invest more in the state while eliminating an unfair tax advantage for out-of-state firms.
It would have reversed a corporate tax law passed just two years earlier.
Naturally, reporters pressed Brown and the Democratic legislators on why they were doing such a turnaround. Senate President Pro Tem Darrell Steinberg said it was because the 2009 bill was passed with "a gun to our heads" by Republicans as part of a budget deal that included tax increases.
But Assemblywoman Fiona Ma, D-San Francisco, said the 2009 bill was "drafted incorrectly," thereby implying that she and others didn't know what they were doing when they voted for it.
That was patently false since everyone, as Steinberg acknowledged, knew the implications of the tax measure. If Ma didn't know, she was the only one. But when a reporter zeroed in and asked her point-blank whether she didn't know what the 2009 bill did, Brown came to her rescue.
"I want to step in here," the governor said, figuratively leaping in front of the bullet. "Trying to discern the motives of those legislators who created this is a fool's errand because they all have a different story."
Brown's measure, incidentally, didn't make it. Legislators knew what it did, and not enough of them liked it.

15 Million is a Big Number
We ran into this article yesterday and were impressed by multiple things: the concept of a book that looks into the prevalence of guns in the hands of strong, able women; the artistic approach documenting women and their guns; the recognition that firearm safety is a major part of the passion; and numerous other things.
The article brings to light that "based on polling research and gun-sale statistics, an estimated 15 million to 20 million women in the United States own their own firearms", and thus discusses a book written by photographer Lindsay McCrum, who stays away from the politics and controversy of the topic. She approaches the issue from a curious perspective and seems to honor the different passions of the women she interviewed and photographed, by commemorating their reasons for having and loving guns.
My favorite picture (mind you, I only read the article so I'm sure there are many more fabulous pictures to be mentioned) is this one:

Sam on the News
We find it exciting that the news calls our own Executive Director when they are looking for comments on issues regarding the Second Amendment! Yesterday, in a matter of 10 minutes, Sam Paredes had 2 news stations schedule interviews with him ... both to be filmed in our office. Sam is no stranger to the news stations, hence, both reporters called and asked for him directly. Whether he is on the local (or state) news or radio stations throughout the state, it's always exciting to see someone you know so eloquently inform the public of what is actually happening in the world of guns ... well, depending on the soundbites the stations chooses to use.
Anyways, in case you missed them:

hate mail
Here in the GOC office, we are all aware of the high level of controversy that is brought about by the mere subject, and purpose, of our business. We do it because we believe in it; and most of the time, we get to engage with fellow believers in the Second Amendment. The phone calls and letters we get are oftentimes born out of frustration, defeat, and all too often lost hope. It's difficult when it feels like you are always losing; we know! However, when we get those phone calls, we have the opportunity to encourage our members and remind them of all the successes we have had! It's a chance for us to motivate their action and strengthen their passion for the cause ... and that is something that we have to keep doing, because hope is not lost! (It's an ongoing fight that we must NOT give up on!)
Now occasionally, we encounter the opposite types of communication. The type that comes from the disgruntled left; the people that are angry that we exist. It can be infuriating! But I think the best way to look at it, is as entertainment. Their pure anger, criticism, judgement, and malicious accusations of our morality are really quite extravagant. I mean, don't we live in a world where we must be "tolerant" (to use a liberal buzz word)? Oh, ya ... I forgot. We are supposed to be tolerant of them ... not the other way around. How could I forget? (note my sarcasm)
Check out this letter we got today (all the way from ENGLAND!). I will consider this one for the record book ... we are frustrating the liberals in England, which means, our impact must be bigger than we thought!! (to zoom in on the image: click on the image, then right click on the pop-up image - click "open image in new window/tab - then zoom in, via the settings/tools on your browser, on the new tab until you can read it better!)

Wrapping Up Session
Sorry about the temporary hiatus! August and September were/have been busy with the last fundraising banquet of the year and the end of the legislative session. For info on the bills that passed the predominately anti-gun legislature, check out our article here. The governor currently has 4 bills on his desk and we are waiting to hear his decision (please veto, please veto, please veto!) We are still encouraging gun owners to call and write letters to Governor Brown to ask him to VETO all the gun bills ... check out the article mentioned above for his contact info.

A Day at the Capitol with Sam
It's not always work and no play....almost, but not today. And sometimes, play mixes with work in a remarkable way, like today.
Sam met up with Tracy and Logan Northam and Allen Jernigan, all from Oroville, this morning, to begin a day long experience in the Sacramento State Capitol building.
Meeting at 9:00 in the morning in room 4202, the Northams and Allen are getting to see what takes place in one of the steps for a piece of legislation. This location is where the Assembly Appropriations Committee meets and ponders bills, the two of interest to GOC being the de Leon ammunition bill (SB 124) and the CCW bill (610) by Senator Wright. Both of these bills originated in the Senate, and this is the last committee that will consider them. Should they pass, and most likely they will, the measures will then go directly to the Assembly floor for a whole house vote. If the Committee allows, Sam will testify in hearty opposition to SB 124.
The men from Oroville are in Senator Doug LaMalfa's district. The Senator will join them for lunch at the Pyramid Restaurant across the street from the Capitol. After lunch, there is a VIP tour of the Capitol set up by the gracious staff of the Senator. This hour long saunter through the Capitol building is full of history and tidbits of information that one long remembers afterward.
Along with these planned events of the day, Sam will also include introductions and visits to other legislative offices, and legislators. It is most interesting, and rewarding. The State Capitol is beautiful as are the grounds around it. It teams with earnest workers, the public and tourists, and carries the feeling that this is where one should be to see and become part of the direction and progress of the entire process designed to benefit every citizen.
This special day for Tracy, Logan and Allen was won by them as top bidder in an auction at GOC's annual Dinner and Raffle in Oroville, California, last June. Next week on Wednesday the 24th, Sam will be spending the day with Gene Accito and Kelly Hassian from Yuba City. They are the highest bidders from the Yuba City Dinner and Raffle earlier in the year.

Gnomes with guns take garden pest control up a notch
Paws in the air or we'll shoot... that's the mission these platoon of gun-toting, garden-protecting gnomes have been given by their creator, former US Naval reserve officer Shawn Thorsson.
Known as the 'combat garden gnomes', these favourite back-garden ornaments have been given a total overhaul that has turned them into a lean green fighting machine.
Foxes, rats, squirrels and other outdoor pests are in the cross-hairs of hand painted AK-47s - and you can be sure they're not afraid to use them.
The idea to create the unit was formulated when Mr Thorsson was serving in Afghanistan and received a joke present of toy army men.
'Someone sent me a package of those cheap plastic green army men as a gag,' explained the 34-year-old from Petaluma, California.
'I did some searching online and found that there were no blue plastic sailors. I felt unrepresented so I sent away for some materials and spent a couple of nights sculpting out little sailors.
'Some months later I was out at sea on a container ship and had a lot more down time.
'I was mulling over what else I could do with little green plastic army men. I was also thinking of sculpting out some comical garden gnomes.
'It didn't take long before these two ideas merged and I started sketching out Combat Garden Gnomes.'

"The Truth About Guns"
I have yet to really browse this new website I came across this afternoon, but I'm looking forward to learning more about them, since just their name is attention-grabbing. "The Truth About Guns" ... what a concept really; the truth, explained by people that actually know something about the topic at hand. It's rather frustrating hearing so many people, whether they be reporters or politicians, talking about guns as if they knew anything about them. Wouldn't you agree?
What drove me to this website (http://thetruthaboutguns.com/) was a video, actually. A video on a topic our office is very familiar with - a bill that we have been invested in fighting since day one. It's a video on AB 144 (Portantino). Yes, that's the bill trying to ban open carry. (in the video, Portantino even admits that there haven't been any crimes or deaths due to open carry in the State of California)
http://thetruthaboutguns.com/2011/08/daniel-zimmerman/you-dont-need-a-handgun-to-order-a-cheeseburger/
Check it out. It's 8 minutes long and it is well worth the viewing. It's refreshing to see someone who knows guns and knows the law talk about the Second Amendment, as opposed to Assemblyman Portantino, who clearly doesn't know guns, or the law.
Watch the video and let us know what you think!

Gun News in the News Today.....August 9, 2011
California Senator de Leon and his bill SB 798, is the subject of a writing posted on AmmoLand.com today. This is the airsoft, BB, pellet gun bill we oppose that was drastically amended right before the summer recess that our legislators are still on. The bill now calls for the repealing of the pre-emption law in California and would allow cities and counties to make their own laws governing airsoft guns. Imagine the mess that would create! Imagine what manufacturers will do? See GOC summation
Because I have an intense interest in the scandal surrounding the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF&E) I read through an article from the Tucson Citizen today, finding that the justifiable investigation of the ATF's operation, called Gun Walker sometimes and other things other times, is continuing to uncover, expose if you will, new elements to the story. All the elements point to an Agency completely out of step with the laws of our land, and completely in step with the agenda of an anti-gun government administration.
Human Events posted an article titled, The Debt Deal and Guns, which surmises that it is not too far fetched to believe that guns will enter into the final equasion, their thought process being thus: the debt ceiling agreement calls for the creation of a bipartisan joint committee that will come up with a plan to save the federal government over a trillion dollars. Congress is not allowed to get involved, meaning that nothing is immune from being included in this plan. An anti-gun White House supports the United Nations Small Arms Treaty, which we know will undercut our Second Amendment, so it is not off the thinking chart to suppose, expect, a provision somewhere in the bill that supplants or circumvents our Constitutional gun rights.
AmmoLand.com posted another interesting article from which I learned a few good things....Both Presidential Candidates Ron Paul and Michele Bachmann have returned their National Association for Gun Rights Presidential Survey's, and both were 100% pro-gun. The tid-bit of info that was news to me was that Candidate, former Governor of Massachusetts Mitt Romney, had signed a permanent "assault weapons" ban as Governor and boasted about it in a press release in 2004.
Some days there is no news worth writing about, other days, the news about gun issues is abundant.....Did you see our website article on the proposed new provisions for the California Republican Party Platform? Don't miss that one!

Pushing Gun Control
The headline reads, Obama Pushing UN Gun Control on US. You can read that us, or United States, for both are correct. It's not new news...it's all over the place that our President, Secretary of State Clinton, and the hierarchy of the administration are pushing us to accept the United Nations Small Arms Treaty, which is a deceptive way putting on us international gun control restrictions. In fact, Hillary has already signed the Treaty.
It has to pass through the Democrat controlled Senate next. This Treaty, as you would suspect, would do away with our Second Amendment to the Constitution. 45 Republican Senators and 12 Democrat Senators have sent a letter to Obama and are poised to stand against this Treaty and Obama's gun control program.
I ran into several articles today while surfing the internet. I liked how the author fit in the history of our Founding Fathers and the quotes of the Writers of our Constitution. I like the clarity of the articles, making it easy to understand the impending peril our nation will incur if this Treaty is signed. You may like the articles as well.

Is this real?
While checking out other gun blogs and facebook pages, we came across this headline:
Virginia Police Seek Serial Butt Slasher
Obviously, it peaked some interest. So we clicked on it and read on: "Fairfax County (Va.) Police believe a man captured on video surveillance footage may be responsible for cutting the buttocks of five women in retail stores while they are shopping." (read more ...)
Clearly, the ridiculous nature of this man's cruel habit generated conversation in the office. The only response to this ludicrous story we could come up with: if more women where carrying guns under their shirts, fewer butts would be slashed. (see yesterday's post for reference)
It's so absurd, it's almost funny. But in reality, it's disgusting. There are too many people out there who set out to rape, kill, or bring some other form of harm to women and children ... and to law-abiding peaceful citizens. If this guy gets caught, he will probably be let off due to some sort of doctor-invented mental disorder. Unfortunately, it's the world we live in.
It's sad. Frankly, it's pathetic. And it's absolutely necessary, that good people stand up and join the fight to save their rights.

An Armed Citizen Fights Back ... and WINS!
These are the kind of stories we need to hear more of ... the kind where the good guy (girl in this case) wins because they were lawfully carrying a firearm, knew how to use it, and protected themselves.

The victim said Carson held a knife to her throat and said "this is a robbery."Investigators say 43-year-old Vincent Carson of Orangeburg entered Days Inn motel at 133 Plumbers Rd. near I-20 and North Main St. sometime before 6:00 a.m.
Investigators said when her attacker slipped the knife into his pants pocket to begin tying her up with plastic ties, the woman pulled a handgun from under her shirt, turned and fired into the man's chest at point blank range.
The victim was about 100 pounds lighter than Carson and stood at least a foot shorter than him, investigators said.
When deputies got to the scene just after 6:00 a.m., they found the suspect unresponsive on the floor. Richland County Coroner Gary Watts said Carson died from a single gunshot to the chest.
Richland County Sheriff Leon Lott said Carson's intent was not only to rob the motel, but also to rape the clerk. "There's no doubt that was his intent," said Lott. "Not only was he going to rob her, but he was going to sexually assault her. Now what was he going to do after that assault was over with, we don't know."
The clerk was not injured, but was taken to Palmetto Baptist Hospital as a precaution.
The suspect was wanted in at least one other motel robbery in the Midlands. The Orangeburg County Sheriff's Department was looking for Carson in connection with a July 14 robbery at the Hampton Inn on US Highway 601.

Gun news in the news.....
There is a lot of “gun news” in the news of late, have you noticed?
Last week I wrote about the Baltimore Mayoral Candidate that was calling for a $1.00 tax on each bullet purchased in his town….what a mindset…today I was reading some of the comments from the citizenry about his proposal. Needless to say the citizens are pert near dumbfounded at the suggestion they see as dumb, no matter which way you look at it.
So, on another level I am most interested in this bullet she just shot at us! Handguns smuggled in from the United States ? Lets see what our ATF has to say about that? Is MP Candice Hoeppner being a clandestine whistleblower? Do we need to start another investigation…Is there another Darrell Issa in the house?
So, the third hearing of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms and Explosive’s is coming up shortly, tomorrow, at 10 in the morning. The focus is going to be the accounts of the ATF agents based in Mexico . The Agents being questioned are prominent enough to suggest this will be a blockbuster event, according to a Seattle paper. There is no question that this is a blockbuster event!
Human Events has written in much stronger language, that “all H_ _ _ _is about to explode" because it is Obama’s Justice Department that started this scandal. The Obama government funded the $80 million dollar program. Melson, the head of the ATF was expected to resign and run, tail between legs style, but he isn’t, choosing rather to whistleblow himself, and in that it is coming to light that there are documents withheld from Congress in a massive cover-up. Attorney General Eric Holder is on the hot seat as a result, and just may be the next one who is expected to resign, tail between the legs style. Wonder if he, too, will turn into a whistleblower……?

GOC Drops New Quarterly...
Newsletter, that is...
GOC's popular newsletter is hot of the press, as they say, meaning that it was mailed out to our members just this week!
Those on the list will enjoy reading Our Roadmap to Victory in 2012 written by Executive Director Sam Paredes, as he lays out his observations of the progress being made by the Redistricting Commission. Sam's view is optimistic that the Commission's re-drawing of the lines will end up giving to the people of the state a better voting opportunity. Meaning, that each district will not be predictable and safe for current candidates, but will give residents a true opportunity to make their vote count and mean something.
The Legislative Update is literally a Call to Action for GOC's members, as the status of each bill we are working on is listed, along with the location of the bill, so that members can contact their legislators and make their views known. There are 6 anti-gun bills that need to go down before the end of session, and our dedicated members can help. Our Website contains Alerts on these six measures and can easily be looked up for access to contact names and numbers. Click Here
