Life Savers: Good News in Gun News!

Happy Friday Gun Owners! Here are a couple of Good News Gun Stories to send you off into the weekend!  I love this granny's attitude, as she feels safe with her .38-caliber pistol by her side!

And I know this video has made its way around the internet, but I had to include it, since it's such a great visual example of how guns really do save lives!

Gun-toting S.C. granny scares off burglars

BLENHEIM, S.C. – There are certain people criminals should not mess with: martial arts experts, superheroes and Ruby Hodge of Blenheim.
When two would-be burglars broke into the 89-year-old widow’s house Monday on S.C. Highway 38 just outside of Blenheim, they probably didn’t expect to find Hodge and her .38-caliber pistol waiting for them.
Standing in her bedroom next to her pink and white floral bedspread, Hodge is just over 5 feet tall and weighs maybe 100 pounds soaking wet. However, just after 8 a.m. Monday, she was more than two grown men could handle.
“I decided I would go see who it was,” Hodge said, recalling she heard someone knock twice on her back door just off the kitchen of her small house. “But before I moved, they knocked a third time and busted my door open. I said to myself, ‘That’s a break in!'“
The men – later identified by police as Ronnie Henry Stevenson Jr., 31, of 956 High Point Road in Lydia, and Nelson Hawkins, 42, of 1564 Turnpike Road in Darlington – were no strangers to the law. Both had lengthy criminal records and were persons of interest on prior burglaries by both Marlboro County and Darlington County sheriffs’ offices.
Their experienced criminal background did them little good against Hodge.
“I got my gun,” she said, reaching under her mattress just as she did Monday morning and pulling out her .38-caliber pistol, fully loaded with six bullets. It belonged to her late husband, who died some 22 years ago. Since then it has just been Hodge and as she showed Stevenson and Hawkins, she can take care of herself.

IT DIDN'T HAPPEN OVERNIGHT: PART 3 "The Socialist Majority"

Read Part 1 & Part 2

The left-wing political leadership recognized that, by themselves, they were only a tiny percentage of the American population, never enough in numbers to win elections. However, small as they were, they were organized and they had a plan, a grand scheme to socialize America! They knew where they wanted to go but how to get there was the question! Patient gradualism was the answer.

Studying the mechanics of American politics, they soon recognized that, on the average, only fifty percent of all adult Americans ever bothered to register to vote. ONLY HALF! Then, in the primary elections, where the two parties choose their candidates, again, ONLY HALF of those who took the time to register even bothered to participate. So, only ONE OUT OF EVERY FOUR Americans actually vote in primary elections where candidates for the general election are selected. It's quite a shock to realize that three out of every four Americans have no say-so in the selection of primary candidates. THAT'S NOT ALL!!! ... Add to those facts, multiple candidates run in primary elections, it is not uncommon for five to ten candidates to seek the same office for each party; thereby splitting the vote even farther. This is especially true when no incumbent is running for re-election, or when every ten years, new seats are created by reapportionment and the office is considered an "open seat". [More in a later column on how the games are played in reapportionment]

Therefore, a small organized percentage of voters could nominate and elect their candidate in primary elections since multiple candidates inevitably seek the same office. The following is an actual example of how a small minority can win a major California State Senate office. The registration heavily favored one of the major parties.

District population approximately 600,000
Those who could register to vote 400,000
Those who bothered to register 235,000
Total who voted in primary election 120,000
Dominate party primary vote 70,000
Lesser party primary vote 50,000

Eight candidates sought the major party nomination and the winning candidate gained 16,000 of the 70,000 votes cast; the other seven candidates split the remaining 54,000.

The primary winner won handily in the general election because of the registration advantage. He easily gained the Senate seat and served for 22 years. He gained leadership and helped elect many others of like mind. Is this race an exception? No! It happens all the time. Realize the significance of only 16,000 votes out of potentially 400,000 who could have participated. Think about it. Is it any wonder that a small dedicated minority of voters could have a disproportionate impact on our government when three out of four Americans don’t even register or bother to take part in primary elections ---- in the very important process of selecting who their candidates might be? Think long and hard about it!!!

The left saw that in local elections for school boards, city council, supervisory races, a even much smaller numbers of votes could affect the outcome. With an organized minority of fellow activists, left wing candidates could, and have won local offices. Once elected, and establishing a base of operations as an incumbent office holder, it's much easier to develop important name identity --- therefore, making it much easier to move up, step by step, to higher office, such as state representatives and state senators. Then, at a later opportunity, to Congress and the US Senate. Many a national left-wing Congressman and Senator has successfully followed this upward path and are now in national office. Study the careers of Democrat Congressman George Miller and Henry Waxman as good examples.

Once elected, even to the smallest seat, the socialist becomes an active part of the movement; committed to help promote the socialist cause, and helping others succeed. They effectively use their office to hire those of like mind, train staff, raise funds and gradually introduce, bit by bit, socialist legislation. For years and years, the good socialist activist moves upwards to one higher office after another --- that is, if he or she remains a good soldier.

The socialists, in Democrat or Republican garb, believe that any method that achieved socialist power is “ethical.” As mentioned before, “the end justifies the means” becomes their motto and method of operation. Deception and lying became the tools of their trade. To call someone a “lying socialist” is a redundancy.

To Be Continued ...

delays and debates

Sorry for the delay in posting yet another riveting article on guns and/or the Second Amendment.  Given last week's unfortunate shooting incident, our office has been slammed with phone calls, interviews, and the like ... while short staffed at the same time.  I know, that doesn't mean that much to you, but it's my excuse nonetheless.

Whenever a mass shooting occurs, GOC and GOA get bombarded with phone calls from reporters who want quotes on why we still think the Second Amendment is important and others who want interviews to provoke discussion on the gun issue.  Yesterday, our Executive Director, Sam Paredes, participated in a debate with  Ben Van Houghton of the Law Center to Prevent Gun Violence on News10 in Sacramento.

Watch the debate and tell us who you think won! (My favorite part is when Sam leans in and corrects Mr. Van Houghton on his facts)|newswell|text|FRONTPAGE|featured

Read Part 1
Let's first review some important historical facts.

Theodore Roosevelt, one our most popular and articulate Presidents, said at the very beginning of the twentieth Century that our destiny as a nation was being threatened. He excoriated some American intellectuals who were espousing what they called "a new morality." Emphatically and without equivocation he stated, "There are those who believe that a new modernity demands a new morality. What they fail to consider is the harsh reality that there is no such thing as a new morality. There is only one morality."
He went on to state "There is only true Christian ethics over against which stands the whole of paganism. If we are to fulfill our great destiny as a people, then we must return to the old morality, the sole morality.”

Roosevelt saw the beginnings of the moral and intellectual slippage and it bothered him greatly. He saw some college academicians advocating a “new morality” embodying atheism, evolution, and socialist materialism. Our twenty sixth president then emphatically said, “All those blatant sham reformers, in the name of new morality, preach the old, old vice and self indulgence which rotted out first, the moral fiber and then even the external greatness of Greece and Rome.”

Tough stuff, hardly what today's political liberal sophists would publicly say much less believe. Not many paid attention to Roosevelt's prophetic warnings. The ethics of these “new moralists” flowed primarily from the theories of two atheistic authors; the now 150 year old, 1859 "scientific" evolutionary theories of Charles Darwin; detailed in his book “Origin of Species,” and, the 1848 socialist "scientific" concepts in Karl Marx’s Das Kapital, and Communist Manifesto. Darwin and Karl's theories became quickly the 'new thing" for a number of American academics who, not only accepted as truth, but, quickly began to advocate as scientific fact to their students.

Over the last 150 years, both Marx and Darwin have been thoroughly discredited and debunked by modern science, logic and time. However, both fallacies were taking hold at the turn of the 1900's. These “new moralists" were becoming increasingly vocal on our college campuses and in the national labor union movement. It didn't take long before they were demanding their “new scientific" ideas should become implemented politically. They began their maiden political voyage by attempting to elect their candidates under the socialist banner. They were unsuccessful and their numbers and influence remained small.

They, at first, had made the mistake of trying to explain how their atheistic, materialistic, and collectivist political schemes worked --- concepts such as governmental ownership of all businesses and property. These were wild ideas at the time --- diametrically opposite to the way Americans thought and therefore, were not only rejected, but scoffed at. The vast majority of our citizens were happy with personal liberty, ownership of private property, constitutional government, free enterprise and politics implemented through the established two party system.

Up to the beginning of the twentieth Century, the nation's ethics were decidedly Christian based --- 90% of the citizenry proudly called themselves Christians and approved of it being discussed in our public schools. Students were instructed on why and how the Constitution was written and who were the Godly men who did so. Students were instructed to memorized passages from their fore-fathers speeches and recite them before the class. Christmas carols were learned and joyfully sung in our public schools. Bible verses were memorized and recited in class. Even the United States Supreme Court, after years of voluminous study, declared in 1898 that America was decidedly a Christian nation.

Patrick Henry emphatically stated, “It cannot be emphasized too strongly or too often that this great nation was founded not by religionists but by Christians, not on religions but on the Gospel of Jesus Christ. For this very reason, peoples of other faiths have been offered asylum, prosperity, and freedom to worship here.”

Americans became very comfortable with our good life, our two party system --- only a few ever thought about wanting to change it. "Why would anyone want anything else?" --- was the national attitude.

In Europe however, the socialists were making some headway in the labor union movement, promoting their Marxist, anti capitalist, hate the rich, divide the wealth, propaganda. The English Fabian socialist movement grew and captured the interest of some of the British intellectuals, such as Bertrand Russell and George Bernard Shaw.

At the turn of the twentieth century, a well organized radical by the name of Lenin, put wheels under the international world socialist movement. He directed a tiny minority of well organized communists in subverting and overthrowing the Russia's Czarist government. He set up what was soon to become a socialist dictatorship of the proletariat. In so doing, Lenin developed a financial base and an international platform for the promotion of world socialism through agitation, subversion, and propaganda. Lenin believed that if subversion worked in capturing Russia, why not anywhere else? After the First World War, the leftist movement wanted to become more politically active in the United States. Lenin was an excellent organizer, and he and other socialist leaders such as Norman Thomas, realized that it was an impossible task to sell their bad tasting political medicine to the vast majority of Americans. Lenin wrote extensively on how not to sell socialism, calling left-wingers who tried to explain socialism an "infantile disorder." In essence, he told the faithful, don't try to sell the details of how the socialist system works, if you do, you'll scare people away. They will quickly see how all power is centralized in the hands of a centralized government and in the hands of a powerful few. Just tell the masses that socialism is wonderful and that it promises equality for all. Safe your breath trying to explain how socialism works, make headway condemning the inequities of capitalism.

Norman Thomas, an early leader in the American socialist movement, promoted the concept that Americans would "never knowingly adopt socialism but, under the name of liberalism, they will adopt every fragment of the socialist program until one day America will be a socialist nation without ever knowing how it happened." The socialist movement decided there were three areas of extreme importance for them to penetrate and influence. Since human beings are nothing more than graduate animals, all humans were just another accident of nature. What they hear and read control all their actions so --- control the avenues of mass communications and you can program the beasts to react like Pavlov's dogs. That meant that the media, education and politics became their prime areas of conquest.

The left then wisely abandoned attempts to sell their socialist programs as a third political party--- deciding that there was more fertile ground within the two party system running as “liberals” and “progressives.” They soon found it wasn't very difficult to do so --- as long as they kept their mouths shut on the glories of socialism. At the beginning of the Twentieth Century, the Democrat’s had a weak national political party, eager for any new members. The left seized the opportunity, registered as Democrats, called themselves "progressives" and went to work within the Democrat party.

They were well aware that both parties are open to any one who wants to join, with no ideological strings attached --- no platform one must adhere to, no specific issues one must accept to be a member. All one had to do was register to vote, be of age, no felonious record and, if caring to run for office, have enough money to file for candidacy. There is no political litmus test in either party in order to be a member or a candidate. Socialists found it easy to register, and run for office as a Democrat; just sublimate their ideology and then campaign around any popular issue in order to get elected. Say what ever works in order to win the office, then legislate as they jolly well please once elected. The end justifies the means was their motto and moral guide, do whatever it takes to win --- lying was never a problem unless caught.

Costa Mesa homeowner pepper sprayed by burglar, shoots at him with his handgun

Tip to burglars: Don’t bring pepper spray to a gunfight.
A burglar in Costa Mesa learned this earlier in the week after blasting a homeowner in the face with his pepper spray canister. The homeowner, presumably blinded, nonetheless managed to retrieve his handgun and squeeze off a few rounds in the general direction of the intruder, Costa Mesa police said in a press release.
He missed, but the burglar fled for his life.
The incident took place around 2:40 a.m. Monday morning, police said, when “an unknown suspect pried open the front door to a home in the 2400 block of Elden Street.” The homeowner, awoken by the noise, discovered the intruder in his bedroom -- right before getting pepper sprayed. (Apparently burglars are known to do this.)
But he somehow managed to grab his gun -- perhaps he keeps it by the bed? -- and fired at the burglar.
“The suspect was last seen running eastbound down the driveway,” police said.
Nothing in the home was taken.
Police have no description of the burglar, probably because his intended victim had been blinded. Anyone with information on the case is asked to call Det. Rob Hanson of the Costa Mesa Police Department at (714) 754-5162.

By Senator H.L. Richardson, ret.
June 2009 Part 1

I'm a conservative who has been active in government. Because of that, a number of acquaintances have recently asked me, "Senator, how did we ever get into the political mess we're in?"

Frankly, I'd rather not take the time to tell them because there is no simple answer--- However, I try anyway. Fact is, after I explain the facts, most don't get it. They rarely grasp the consequences of what I'm telling them --- They don't have the background to comprehend the consequences of what I've just told them. It's a rare bird who asks the important question "what can I do, or, is there a good cause that I can donate to?”

No matter what the response, I have to tell them anyway. Why? Because the Scripture tells me that if I know the answer, I should give them an ear full. In Ezekiel 3:18, the prophet Ezekiel was told to inform the people to shape up or else. The Lord commanded him to tell the impudent and stubborn children, both the good and the bad ones, to repent and ask for forgiveness. God told Ezekiel that if he didn't tell them, their blood was on his hands. What was good advice for Ezekiel was meant for all of us today. If we know and don't tell, the blood is on our hands as well.

That's why I'm writing this article so when the next person asks, I tell them to look it up on my Blog, www.SENHLR.BLOGSPOT.COM (editors note: refer to and think about it. Maybe if they read it over a few times, they might get it and get busy.

It's a tough story to tell because it didn't happen overnight ---but happen it did! Ignoring God's directions and being a stiff necked people, we're now in deep, deep trouble. Robert Louis Stevenson once said, "Sooner or later in life, we all sit down to a banquet of consequences.”Well, we're at the banquet and we're suffering the consequences of having denied God's directions for a good life and a trip to eternity.

There are many reasons but this article is about the political complacency that affects most Americans. The vast number of our citizens have been happy the way we all live and aren't interested in changing anything, or doing much about politics. Slowly but surely, they have drifted away from knowing the vital role God played in this nations birth. Therefore, after paying scant attention to the mechanics of American politics, most Americans have little understanding or interest in how it has been cleverly changed. Most have been too busy to think about it and can't imagine "why anyone would ever want to change it anyway". Comfortable with the attitude of "If it ain't broke why bother to fix it!" --- and, forgetting the statement that "the price of liberty is eternal vigilance," complacency has pushed us to the cusp of losing big chunks of our income, our property and our personal freedom.

The second reason is that there are political activists who don't like "our way of life' and for over a century, have been working diligently to turn us into another godless European socialist state --- or worse.

"Well," you may ask, “How did this all happen?" It is difficult to cram a century of activity into a short article, but I'll try to give the highlights of how the socialists have gotten us in this bureaucratic mess and now have the power to push us over the cliff.

New Series: Good News in Gun News

It gets tiring listening to the liberal media crushing the Second Amendment, every time they report on a story where a gun was used to harm.  Yes, it happens, and it's devastating, every time a life is lost or injured ... due to the misuse of firearms.  It's the age-old argument, "guns don't kill people, people kill people".  And it's true.  The gun didn't aim itself at the innocent person.  The trigger didn't pull itself.  There was a brain and a human action behind the gun.

We could go on and on and on, couldn't we?

Well, since the liberal media refuses to report on stories where guns were used properly and where they were used to save a life, we will do our part to spread those good-news stories around.  The people need to hear them.  And the Second Amendment needs the support of smart, law-abiding citizens that effectively use their firearms, when necessary.

So every Friday, we will post a story or two, about how guns saved a life. This is our "Life Saver: Good News Gun Stories" Series.  So stay tuned, and re-post our good news stories with a link back to our blog!

Today, you get two stories {with one even coming from the Bay Area}:

Michigan Court Strikes Down Stun Gun Ban & Says Second Amendment Applied to Open Carry

Posted on  by Ammoland
By Eugene Volokh
Eugene Volokh
Eugene Volokh
USA --(  People v. Yanna (Mich. Ct. App. June 26, 2012) holds that Michigan’s stun gun ban violates the Second Amendment.
I filed an amicus brief on behalf of AWARE (Arming Women Against Rape & Endangerment) in this case, and also wrote a law review article on the subject (Nonlethal Self-Defense, (Almost Entirely) Nonlethal Weapons, and the Rights To Keep and Bear Arms and Defend Life, 62 Stanford Law Review 199 (2009)), so I’m especially pleased by the result.
I hope also that this leads to similar results in some of the other places which ban stun guns — D.C., Hawaii, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, Rhode Island, Virgin Islands, and Wisconsin, as well as the several cities that take a similar view, some of which are in relatively right-to-keep-and-bear-arms-friendly areas.
The court also in the process made three broader statements:
  1. The Second Amendment applies not just to firearms but to other weapons as well. “[The state] argues that Heller is strictly a gun control case, but the broad nature of the language used in Heller’s definition of arms clearly covers more than just firearms.”
  2. Even weapons that are “far less prevalent than handguns” may still be protected by the Second Amendment. “The prosecution also argues that tasers and stun guns [are] ‘unusual’ or rare weapons. However, they are legal in forty-three states, and in Michigan are routinely used by law enforcement officers. They have been in use for several decades. Though far less prevalent than handguns, we do not think that stun guns or tasers may be fairly labeled as unusual weapons.”
  3. The Second Amendment extends to open carrying of at least some weapons — possibly including other “protected arm[s],” such as handguns — in public, and not just to possession in the home. “The next question is whether the protected status of these arms makes unconstitutional a complete ban on carrying them in public. Heller specifically addressed only a full ban of protected weapons inside the home, not in public. Further, the analysis in Heller focused in part on the unmatched popularity of handguns for self-defense, and did not make clear to what extent greater restrictions could be applied to less popular weapons.
“On the other hand, Heller states that concealed weapons may be banned, but makes no such statement regarding openly carried arms. Indeed, Heller cites with approval two state cases that struck down laws prohibiting the public carrying of hand guns. The Second Amendment explicitly protects the right to ‘carry’ as well as the right to ‘keep’ arms. Likewise, the Michigan Constitution specifically allows citizens to ‘bear’ arms for self-defense. We therefore conclude that a total prohibition on the open carrying of a protected arm such as a taser or stun gun is unconstitutional.”
Eugene Volokh is a law professor at UCLA, who specializes in free speech, religious freedom, church-state relations, and gun rights; he is the author of two textbooks, over 70 academic articles, and over 80 op-eds, and is the founder of The Volokh Conspiracy blog.

It's just a shirt!

I just stumbled onto this blog and found this post both humorous and pathetic.  Not at the writers expense, of course, but at the fear that is so clearly driven by the media's miscommunication of guns to the public.  Read on, and see for yourself:

From GunGoddess

A gun image on a t-shirt could be hazardous to a DMV clerk’s health

From a GunGoddess customer, in her own words:
“Ok, from now on you have to put a warning on your Gun Goddess t-shirts because of what happened today while I was wearing mine!  LMAO!  Do you know how dangerous a silk screened gun can be?  Apparently this DMV clerk thought I was gonna rip it off and go gun crazy!
So I know that craziness follows me wherever I go, but at DMV? I had an appt this morning for 9:30 to pick up my personalized plates. So I go, check in and they give me a number. Like a minute later they call my number. I go to the line and the clerk looks up at me and her eyes get REAL wide and she says “I’m sorry but you’re shirt (YES, SHIRT) is making me really nervous and uncomfortable. Would you please leave?” WTF????
I said “No, I will not. I have an appointment and I am here to take care of it” She says again “I am asking you to leave and I can call security to escort you” I said “Call them and while your at it, call your supervisor” The security guy comes up and asks what the problem is and the clerk tells him my Gun Goddess shirt is making her nervous and she would like me escorted off property. Again, WTF???
He says “Ma’am, are you carrying a weapon?” I said “No, I am not (I wasn’t)” and then the supervisor shows up and asks me the same thing. IT’S A PICTURE OF A GUN ON MY SHIRT FOR CHRIST SAKES! The clerk asks the supervisor to complete my transaction as she sits nearby nervously twitching. Supervisor handles it, runs my DL number, assured that I am not a criminal she gives me my plates and I leave. Now my Gun Goddess shirt made her nervous but the woman in the FULL BURKA ahead of me did not? Do you have any idea how much **** you can hide under a burka???? God save me from the idiots at the DMV!
I also told her “I have a shirt that says “Yes, They’re Fake” would you be afraid that my implant might explode?”  She didn’t think that was funny.  LOL”

From the Desk of the Founder

For those of you who weren't around when our founder, Senator H.L. Richardson, occupied his seat in the California State Senate, you may not know that he is also a very talented writer.  His writings always provide a valuable lesson or point of insight in regards to politics, conservatism, and  the Second Amendment.  He's daring in what he says and he has no shame for his honesty.

At 83 years old, his passion is still inspiring.

SO, since I am too often distracted by other responsibilities, I thought that I might post some of his writings on here.  I'll pick quotes from here and there, turn a longer article into a series, or even include clips from his books (which can be purchased here) .  I hope you find his writings interesting and helpful.  He has a passion for teaching conservative principles and motivating action, and he communicates is passion in every word he pens!

Today, a short story about coyote droppings:

Coyote Droppings

History does repeat itself, often in the strangest ways—especially when dealing with the most gullible of dupes—the misinformed humanoid. Let me give you a pithy example from the pages of Western lore.

On an early spring morning in 1874, a thousand painted warriors gathered on the high breaks of the Canadian River, in the upper reaches of the Texas Panhandle. They were there to scalp the “white eyes”; the twenty-eight buffalo hunters camped below. The place was called “Adobe Walls,” nothing more than several crudely thrown together sod structures in a open flat - surrounded on three sides by flat topped bluffs. Waiting for the early light, hidden behind the surrounding ridges were close to a thousand Comanche, Arapaho, Kiowa and Cheyenne braves, eager to surprise the buffalo hunters asleep in the valley below.

The painted savages were extremely confident and excited at the prospect of having a scalp dance that night and why not? They had been convinced by Ishatai, the Comanche medicine man, that victory was assured because his “medicine” was great. The Indians believed he had great puha [that’s power]. The Comanche prophet had predicted that no harm could possibly come to any of them. His medicine was so strong that bullets bounced off of him and he, the great Ishatai, would give his “medicine," his protective power, to each brave.

The highly superstitious braves believed Ishatai, whose name by the way, translated into English, means Coyote Droppings or Wolf’s Rear End.

However, things didn’t quite go as expected. The buffalo hunters were not asleep and as soon as the attack began, there were dead and wounded Indians scattered all around the mud dwellings. Coyote Droppings, covered with yellow war paint, sat on his white war pony nearly a mile away, observing the fight, not once venturing near the battle. The father of a downed brave taunted Ishatai to rescue his wounded son. “Why not ride into the fray since you said that bullets couldn’t hurt you?” The medicine man didn’t move a muscle, that is, not until Billy Dixon, one of the buffalo hunters, cut loose with his 50-caliber Sharps rifle from over 1500 yards away, knocking the Indian next to Coyote Droppings off his horse.

It was a bad day for the Indians and for Wolf’s Rear End’s “medicine”. The “white eyes” survived.

You would think that the medicine man would have been run out of the tribe for being such a lousy prophet but Coyote Droppings had someone else to blame. He explained that it wasn’t his fault. Some dirty Indian killed a skunk on the way to the fight and that nefarious act broke the spell, jinxing his magic thereby allowing the bullets to kill.

Believe it or not, the superstitious Indians bought this whopper. Ishatai continued to be a respected Comanche chief and medicine man until his death, many, many years later.

Primate lore is filled with examples of witch doctors and medicine men that claimed to possess puha. This “power”--- the medicine men acquired from dreams. More often than not, their ticket to dreamland was through fasting or chewing the drug peyote. They would then tell the tribe their dreams, saying they had just had communion with the gods. Such men will always succeed whenever you have superstitious, primitive and gullible natives who believe such things.

Little wonder such primitive customs and beliefs were dumped in the trashcan of history by Americans -- or were they? Has much changed from the 1880’s? One wonders when we view our fellow Americans gullibly swallowing the newest “spin” dished out by the modern day medicine men posing as a “consensus of scientists’ backed by the United Nations and hawked by “objective” reporters, TV commentators, and led by left-wing politicians who see another great way to enlarge government. These “spin masters” don’t need peyote to dream up images for the masses to consume, all they need is enough gullible uneducated fools who believe “it can happen here.”

“Global Warming” anyone?

Being a non-profit, member based organization, we are always looking for new and innovative ways to raise more money ... we may be a little behind at times, but with new technology always emerging, we are doing our best to keep up.

(This is the point at which you are more than welcome to chime in with offers to help in our fundraising effort ... just sayin')

With the increase of online businesses, there are more opportunities to raise money or increase funds through businesses like Amazon.  We have recently joined the Amazon Associates Program, which enables us to make money off of particular products purchased through simple advertisements on our website.

We understand that you can barely navigate from one website to another without being bombarded with advertisements, and rest assured, we don't want to do that to our members.  However, we will use this opportunity to showcase items that might actually be of interest to our gun loving members.

So, the next time you want to browse Amazon for the latest hunting or gun gear, use our website as a portal!  You will be helping raise money to protect your gun rights!  And why not do that, just by shopping online?!

Banning the Use of Hounds in Hunting: But It's in His Blood

The California Legislature has been acting with brutal force this year, to not only strip Californian's of our Second Amendment rights, but also to rid the state of hunting.  Their attack on hunting is through Senate Bill 1221 which would ban the use of hounds for the hunting of bears and bobcats.  As our Executive Director says it in his Legislative Update video, "this is just the camel's nose under the tent".  It's their first move to stop hunting altogether, all under the guise of saving the hounds from possible harm.

Now I'm going to get a little personal here, so please excuse the lack of formality ...

Meet Porter ... my German Shorthaired Pointer

This was Porter as a puppy.  Cute, right?

Well, this is him at 7 months:

Beautiful, right?  We can't walk through Home Depot without people stopping us to compliment him.  He's a year and a half now and only looks better, stronger, and in my potentially biased opinion, perfect!

Any owner of a GSP knows these dogs are made for hunting.  It's in their blood.  He sees a bird and he's frozen.  I fully admit to failing him when it comes to proper training ... but the instincts are still fully present.

And now the state is going to tell us that we can't let dogs do what they were born and bred to do?  The attack is on hunting of bears and bobcats right now; but if this bill passes, the attack will move to prevent the use of hounds while hunting all animals, including upland game and waterfowl.

Gun Owners of California is determined to fight this bill tooth and nail.  Are you with us?

Share this post, along with our website, to let people know what is happening to their hunting and Second Amendment rights!

**Then, post a picture of your hunting dog on our facebook page! Let's see all of those beautiful hunting dogs and praise them for doing what they were meant to do so well!

back in action

It's been quite a year so far in the world of California politics, as the Legislature is at it again ... doing their best to take away our gun rights, one law at a time.

Our website is full of news articles, petitions, videos, etc, on all the legislation we are fighting against.  As always, being a non-profit, we are working hard to raise more money in order to have greater strength to push back with.  You've probably heard us say this before, and we'll say it again: power in politics comes from money and numbers.  Two things we need more of in order to make the kind of impact gun-loving Californian's are yearning for.

So here is my plea ... or rather, my proposal to you ... the faithful, the dedicated, the active:

Yes, we need more donations.  We always will, as the California law book is ever increasing in pages.  We need donations from existing members, as well as new memberships from the gun owners across the state that have yet to join GOC.

Some people can't donate given their current economic state, and we understand that.  Some people can donate, but choose not to, out of fear that they will get on some sort of "list" (we've heard that many times before).  Well, here's some news ... if you've purchased a gun or voted ... ever ... you are probably already on a list of some sort.

But there is more that you can do.  We are trying to revamp the blog and forum.  We feel these are significant ways we can reach gun owners across the state and spread the message that is so important to the Second Amendment.  We want to relay news, warnings, petitions, calls to action, voter suggestions, business recommendations, etc to people who are interested.

How can you help?  Comment on the blog and spread it around.  Join the forum and start using it.  We need people to interact.  The more traffic we get, the more we will grow.  We are in the technological age and we can't escape the fact that our presence online is just not strong enough.

We are committed to strengthening our presence through valuable content and interesting articles.  We are committed to fighting for the Second Amendment and we hope you can join us in the fight ... in any and every way possible!
